As a parent what do you feel is more effective communication when you want your kid to behave?
Say your kid is jumping up and down in the shopping cart at WalMart, do you say to your child.
“Will you please sit down?” or
“Sit down, now”
Which is more effective and why?
OK just for a little clarification.
Don’t the words “will you” or “please” indicate that the child has a choice? Are you people seriously asking your child to sit down or telling them to sit down?
Maureen thats great.
-used as a function word to express politeness or emphasis in a request
You don’t ask kids for favors, you instruct them what to do. End of the story.
