Merry Christmas vs. Happy Holidays?
What is the big deal? WalMart and other stores have decided to use ‘Happy Holidays’ as their official store greeting. Why are people upset over this? Is it really a big deal if someone you don’t know, that doesn’t know you or your beliefs, gives you a warm friendly greeting. Yes, most people in America celebrate Christmas, but there are many Holidays between November and December and we should celebrate them all.
WalMart is a GLOBAL company, and like it or not, there are plenty of people in the world who don’t celebrate Christmas. WalMart wants those people to feel just as welcome as the ones who do celebrate Christmas. Is this really what things have come to in America? We are complaining about someone saying ‘Happy Holidays’. There are so many more important things to worry about.
I dont really care if its Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas that retail stores use to greet people. I’m a Catholic and do personally prefer Merry Christmas but if I’m greeted Happy Holidays I wouldnt be upset. I was greeted to have a happy holiday and I’m cool with that. So I suppose people who are greeted Merry Christmas who prefers to be greeted Happy Holidays shouldnt be upset eaither, because its a friendly greeting too.
To each his own, but if you would really think about it, there are more Christians than not who are shopping at Walmart in US and Foriegn Countries. Mexico for example is predominantly Catholics, and they would be rather greeted Merry Christmas than Happy Holidays.
