I would go to a store that has several to choose from and ask for a salesman that shoots what your looking for (recurve). They should be able to give you some pointers. If a recurve is what you want, thats what you need to get. They take a lot more practice to get good, but its not a bad thing.
I got one last yr a cabelas in KC, KS and had a helpful salesman. He shoots recurve himself.
As for the specifics, youll probably need to start no heavier than 40#. Thats where most bows start as thats probably the lightest weight you can use to hunt w/. If you plan on hunting, check your state regulations for specifics.
PSE archery makes a model called Impala. It costs less than $200 by itself. Youll also need either a tab or glove for release, arrows w/ real type feathers, and an arm gaurd. By the time you get set up, youll be in the $300 range.
You might also look into a arm strengthener if you dont feel you can pull back the weight. With a recurve, you pull the whole weight. w/ a compound, there is a let off that relieves a lot of the weight past a certain point.
Good Luck!
