Can I switch from vista to XP?
I just bought an acer aspire 5315 laptop from walmart for a one day only deal nice laptop it has a 80g hd and 1.7 processor with 1014mb of ram But it has windows Vista and I hate it it has given me nothing but problems since I got it. I also have a Gateway laptop that has a 1.5 processor with 2 512 sticks of ram with XP on it and that laptop is way better and way faster than this new one even though it is smaller . Does anyone know if it would be easy to put Xp on this new acer laptop and how would I go about doing that? And also what angers me is this acer says it has a 80gb hard drive when i open my computer and look at the hard drive info it is split into two and each only have 32gb capacity wher is the other 16 gb of hard drive this thing is suppose to have I know that its always a little smaller than what it says the size hard drive a computer has But give a break thats 16 gb of hard drive that is missing Thats like one half of one of them
the missing space on the HD is the eRecovery partition. It is hidden and contains the factory default hard drive image. It is used to restore the laptop in case of problems.
to speed up the PC – remove all the junk software that auto-starts on it like Norton and the Acer stuff. use add/remove programs or msconfig.
Also go into performance and set it to high performance. It turns off all the bells and whistles and speeds it up nicely.
Then spend $$ and get more RAM. fry.com has a 2g kit for $35 ($60 – $25 rebate) – http://shop1.outpost.com/product/5387938
there is a BIOS upgrade to help with some issues too, if needed.
With all these tweaks its fast and good and no need to format and install XP. If you do go to XP, go to Acer’s website and download the drivers for XP first. Then boot to the XP cd and format the c: partion and install XP
