We have never had an HDTV. I would like recommendations on HDTV’s under $1000.00?

We have been looking at the Samsung 27″ Widescreen LCD HDTV w/ Digital Tuner, LN-S2738D that Wal-mart has on sale for $698.00. I am always skeptical of Walmart. Is this an old model?
We want to get a good TV but don’t want to break the bank!
Any recommendations?

I couldn’t disagree more, You get what you pay for, When good ole wally world buys tv’s they tell the mfg. they want to buy x many tv’s and they want to pay x dollars, and then it is up to the mfg. to find a way to sell those sets to them for that price. Often they remove features like multiple inputs, cable card slots or whatever it takes to reduce the cost. they may pull last years screens or last years sound card, or etc whatever it takes to reduce the cost. So you get less than the best the mfg has to offer.

The big box stores sell it to you and if you pay close attention to the warranty information, if you do not buy the extended. many sets do not cover surge protection, if you have a problem, don’t call them call the mfg. and he will find you a service person, you may have to carry it in for service, so the idea that they are all the same is lacking.

recommendations: find a local dealer who services what they sell. you will more than likely find he is competing with the big box stores — don’t I say don’t try to beat him down. His cost is often such that he makes a very small margin on the sets he sells. five years ago he made 25 to 30 percent now he may make 5% that’s why he charges for delivery & setup. I’ve also found he is a better source of information about the sets, the’re quality and problems than the big box stores
