‘01 Yamaha Warrior Won’t Crank?

Just wondering if anyone out there might have any ideas as to why a warrior would intermittently not crank when the start button is pressed. It will however start if you bridge the relay with a wrench. I have done the following (in no particular order) trying to figure it out:

-Charge battery (<1yr old, Walmart special)
-Disassemble and clean handlebar control
-Replace starter relay
-Unplug and spray all connections w/ contact cleaner

Also, the bike has started to quit and exhibit this problem when it gets warmed up. Then it won't crank for a random amount of time, sometimes hours, sometimes days. Any ideas would be most appreciated. At this point I am thinking it may be the stator or CDI as according to the wiring diagram the start button runs through the CDI but I am hesitant to drop $150ea on CDI and stator for a bike that I paid $1250 for without more troubleshooting.

Always give year, make, engine size and model # when asking questions. We need all of that info to give an informed answer.
Yamaha makes quads and motorcycles named Warrior.

Motorcycle – neutral safety circuit. Consisting of the neutral light switch, clutch lever switch, diode.
Bike and quad – defective handlebar switch (start button), wire harness.

The starting circuit does not go through the CDI or Stator – those two components have nothing to do with the starter.

Electrical trouble shooting – backtrack the circuit from component to battery.
Unplug the starter solenoid from the wire harness – leave the 2 large cables connected.
Jump the 2 wires of the connector from the solenoid, to the battery (one wire to (-) one wire to (+)).
If engine cranks – internals of solenoid good.

Key on.
12v test light – attach the clip to ground.
Press and hold the start button.
Test for power at the wire harness side of the solenoid connector.
If power on one wire, start button good.

Key off.
Multi-meter on Rx1
Test for continuity between solenoid connector (wire harness side) and ground (the wire that didn’t have power from previous test).
If continuity, ground circuit of wire harness good.

There are many more tests.
I could keep going, but I charge by the hour.
Best thing for you to do would bring your machine to a qualified mechanic.
