Shark week 2009 is starting from today on the discovery channel. It will show you that sharks can attack in both the deep ocean and in a few feet of water. The first installment of the show will show you the sharks attacks that inspired the film “Jaws” This was the shark attacks in 1916 off the coast of Jersey during a summer heat wave.

Sharks attack people but they are not looking for food. The human body does not have enough blubber on it to feed the shark. Shark attacks are mainly because the shark is testing the human body and when it realises that there is not enough food for it the let go.

Shark attacks are mainly on surfers and wind surfers which make up 56% of all shark attacks. These attacks can take place in both deep water and in shallow water of up to 3 feet.

“Blood in the water” is the first installment of shark week and it shows the shark attacks from those killer sharks that cause deaths up and down the coastline in the same general areas every year. This also goes through the 5 attacks that occurred in a 12 day period. Of those 4 people died from their injuries.
